Where Confluence is the better choice
- Your documentation is internal and should live next to Jira issues, boards and projects. Aveela has no such integration and will not get one.
- You need fine-grained permissions, governance and administration for a large organisation.
- You are an Atlassian customer anyway - Confluence is already there, and a second tool is only worth it for the client-facing side.
- You are a team of up to 10 people and want to start at no cost.
In short
Confluence and Aveela are less competitors than tools pointing in two directions: Confluence documents inwards, Aveela outwards. Plenty of teams use both - Confluence for their own knowledge, Aveela for what reaches the client.
